Cendres obviously comes from the same vein as his Trois icônes, given the similar harmonic and textural palette. An alternative title for the larger work is Souvenir éternel, which furnishes a more coherent context for the piece’s subtitles, that being Clarté profonde (Profound Clarity), Lumiére noir (Dark Light), Rayons divins (Divine Rays), Statue, & Cendres (Ashes), in that order. Rayons divins and Cendres are the only movements from the piece that are in the edition used for this video.
