Nikolai Obukhov - Les Astrales Parlent (Woodward)

Robert Woodward, pf Recorded in 2011 Nikolai Obukhov was a Russian composer who lived from 1892-1954. He was one of the main Russian post-Scriabin idiosyncratic composers fascinated with mysticism. Mainly active in France, many of his works are signed as “Nicolas l’illuminé” (Nicolas the Visionary). He invented several electronic instruments, most famously the Croix Sonare, and wrote miniatures for them. He also pioneered total Harmony, a compositional method where all twelve chromatic pitches must be present at least every 2 chords. He employs this in Les Astrales Parlent, which translates as “The stars Speak”. His Les Astrales Parlent was composed in 1915. Video Protected Under Fair Use.
