The coordinates of the target were transmitted to the artillerymen by an advanced group of Russian reconnaissance officers, who monitored the movements of enemy personnel and identified new positions using unmanned aerial vehicles. After several sighting shots and adjustments to the D-30 gun, which was in a closed firing position, the scouts recorded a direct hit in the dugout containing Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel.
