Namakura Gatana 1917 HD 4K-ish Restoration. Blunt Sword. EARLY or FIRST ANIME. sumerias1

Check out the newly uploaded FULL version of this at Jun’ichi Kouchi’s Namakura Gatana (“A Fine Sword“) is a rather old and unique animation about an incompetent samurai who purchases a dull sword. He returns to complain to the seller only to be humiliated. Initially praised for its purely Japanese characters and subject matter upon its release in 1917, this animation has a very distinct style I’ve not seen elsewhere. The full animation is somewhere around 2 minutes long and is not available in its entirety. It was discovered in a well ventilated paper container in and antique shop in 2007. I have done my best to fix up the 34 seconds available which aired on a public broadcast. Hopefully, it will be released in its entirety one day as it’s quite fun. This “restoration“ was a lot more problematic than last week’s Katsudo Shashin. The network tags and the giant blurred box in the bottom left hand corner proved difficult to satisfactorily remove. I put a lot more time into it than I initially thought I would, doing quite a bit of frame by frame editing. I’m not completely happy with the results, but I feel this is a giant improvement from the other versions available on Youtube. I know that these restorations aren’t exactly professional. Still, if anyone wants to support these restorations further, like and comment on them. If you’re crazy about them (doubtful, but who knows) maybe even consider becoming the very first donor on my Patreon account: I’ll only do public domain restorations (for anime, that’s most anime released prior to 1953). I’ll probably do silent films as well. At present, I’ll consider requests, but I don’t have a lot of free time, so no guarantees. I’m also trying to keep up an animated series (The Prehistoric Adventures of Adam and Steve) and regularly post music videos on top of my work schedule, so things are busy.
