At the age of ten, she began to study in the city palace of pioneers of Leningrad, and three years later she made her debut in the USSR championship among girls in Riga. In 1974, as part of the Leningrad schoolchildren’s national team, she became the winner of the All-Union Schoolchildren’s Olympics in Alma-Ata. She won the Leningrad women’s chess championships six times (1976, 1981, 1982, 1988, 1989, 1991) and repeatedly became the prize-winner of these tournaments - the last time in 2003, when she took second place. She also won the women’s blitz championships in Leningrad seven times. She took part in the finals of the USSR Chess Championship among women in 1981, in which she shared 14-15th place. She represented the Leningrad team in the USSR championships between the teams of the Union republics in chess (1983, 1991), where in 1983 she won the third place in the team competition. She is also a master of sports in sport climbing, and in this sport she was the champion of the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions.
