Danelectro Grilled Cheese Distortion

The Danelectro DJ-10 Grilled Cheese distortion is a buzzy one (in all senses of the word) and it makes me wonder if Danelectro were indeed genius or just plain out of touch with desirable guitar sounds. What you have is a very thin and brittle distortion with a cocked wah circuit that can never be turned off, which makes for a brutal and unforgiving tone that pretty much sounds like a guitar recorded through a cellphone. For some, this is an encouraging prospect, and planted in a mix and layered over and over with different resonance settings could make for a very interesting and unique guitar sound.
