I watched again this extraordinary film directed by Götz Friedrich on the tragedy of Elektra, composed by Richard Strauss, and wanted to add a scene where Elektra (Leonie Rysanek) things to be stronger than her mother, Klytämnastra (Astrid Varnay) and vows revenge on the murder of her father. The parts change when Klytämnastra is told that Orest, Elektra’s brother and Klymtämnestra’s son, has died.
The orchestra was conducted by 86-year old maestro Karl Böhm. He died very soon after this project. This production is available on DVD with a bonus material including a very interesting document on making of the movie. This is one of the best opera movies I have ever seen. The greatest opera movie directors were Friedrich and Ponnelle, as far as I know.
