Stan Kenton and the birth of the progressive jazz sound - Rare Interview!
From the ARCHIVE, Richard Niles’ documentary on Progressive Jazz bandleader STAN KENTON. Not only is there a rare interview with Kenton himself but Niles interviews his daughter, acclaimed author LESLIE KENTON who discusses her father’s concepts. Kenton was a committed innovator who, for forty years, pushed jazz forward in harmony, composition, orchestration, and featured the work of gifted arrangers such as Pete Rugolo, Johnny Richards, musicians Stan Getz, Art Pepper, Conti Candoli, and singers Anita O’Day and June Christy.
Don’t miss this video full of candid photos of Stan and his musicians on stage, in the studio and on the band bus!
