There’s way too much reason that restrict or stop a victim to speak up. The main one being fear; fear of further abuse, threats or harm to themselves or done to their loved one. Shame of being judge or blame for their abuse. Victim might feel ashamed or guilty of what happened. Some victims get blamed or they self blame, saying that they somehow cause it or deserved the abuse.
Their surroundings can also discourage the victim to speak; a lack of support, a dependency to the abuser wether they are your parent, family member or a caregiver. Some victims might also develop trauma bonding; having a strong emotional attachment to their abusers is extremely difficult to break out and speak out against the abuse.
There is so much reason why a victim don’t speak up, it’s not simple. Give them time to process and accept their abuse, it’s already a lot for a victim to unpack.
