Karompa Super Dwarf Retics [A Brief Locality Overview]
The rarest of all Super Dwarf Reticulated python localities, the Karompa Retic has still never been successfully reproduced in captivity, except to make crosses into other morphs and localities. These Retics are said to be the smallest of all Retics, with a very calm demeanor and great attitude (even as wild caught specimens), and also to have the most extreme color contrast and aberrant patterns among the localities. Hailing from a tiny island south of Sulawesi, this race of mini Retics is inherently always living on the brink of extinction. The very conditions that created this island form in nature are also their greatest threat.
The terms “Dwarf Reticulated Python“ and “Super Dwarf Reticulated Python“ are used to describe Reticulated pythons of the subspecies Satuprai and Jampeanus, along with crosses of these subspecies into mainland reticulated pythons to refine the amazing array of genetic morphs within that species, and reduce their size to something more suited to a life with humans. Unfortunately, these terms are often used to mislead uneducated buyers into purchasing snakes with insufficient Dwarf and SD influence (lower than 50% Dwarf/SD Blood), or by completely misrepresenting larger grow Retics altogether!
Pure locality Dwarf and Super Dwarf Retics from the Selayer, Jampea, Kayuadi, Kalatoa, Madu, and Karompa islands of Indonesia form a group represented by two unique subspecies of Reticulated python that have actually adapted to live in harsh environments with their diminutive size- packing all the intelligence, confidence, and incredibly beautiful color and pattern of the world’s longest snake into a tiny little package, some being even as small as corn snakes! Unfortunately, they are still quite rare in captivity, and difficult to find.
At Reach Out Reptiles we dedicate ourselves completely to Dwarf and Super Dwarf Reticulated pythons like no one else in the world! We want everyone to be able to learn about this little known and under-appreciated, misunderstood, and highly misrepresented group of animals without all the politics and personal agendas being pushed by sellers. Stay awhile, and connect with us, and the WILD within you that really makes you HUMAN!
Special thanks to Parker Pythons and Metcalf Reptiles for generously allowing us the opportunity to work with these magnificent creatures.
