Rank means nothing in leadership: Green Berets explain
Sometimes taking charge has nothing to do with rank, position or tenure.
Green Berets look forward and focus attention on the next ridgeline. This simple attribute is critical to complex problem solving and seizing opportunity no matter the challenge. It also doesn’t mean we forget about what we’ve done and where we’ve come from.
CSM Matt Williams may be the Command Sergeant Major of 4th Battalion, 1st Special Warfare Training Group training the next generation of Green Berets in their specific jobs, but he’s also a recipient of the Medal of Honor for his actions in the Shok Valley of Afghanistan.
Fran Racioppi sat down with CSM Williams, and his 4th Battalion, 1st Special Warfare Training Group command team partner LTC Dave Lucas for a conversation on building leaders capable of success under extreme stress, maintaining the standard and preparing the next generation of Green Beret for the peer-to-peer fight; plus Matt shares his account of the Battle of Shok Valley.
