Project Thunderball V2 (Heavy Lift Bicopter)

This is twin contra-rotating gimbled motor system configured as a bi-copter. This was done to provide a look and function more accurate to the movie. It was made from materials that are not normally considered “flight friendly“. This enables relatively rapid prototyping. Those materials include PVC, bolts, tie-wraps, and generous amounts of foil and tape - and of course, a mannequin. That brings the weight in excess of 13lbs! Despite this, I enjoy 10 minute flight times - a direct result of many large props (EDF would have reduced the flight time by more than a factor of 2). I plan to convert this to a tri-copter so I can torque against a thruster instead of the battery weight at his belt line. Maybe then, I will crash it a bit less!
