VOCES8 announces Lyyra: Here there be Mermaids by Mars Smith

Introducing a special release to celebrate International Women’s Day, 2024 ’Here there be Mermaids’ is the first single from the new album by the Mars Smith duo - with Daniela Mars (flute) and Paul Smith (piano). The single features Lyyra, the new US based women’s ensemble created by the VOCES8 Foundation. The track was recorded and filmed at the VOCES8 Centre in London in early 2024. ’Here there be Mermaids’ is based on an ancient myth from the Faroe Islands, and in particular from the island of Kalsoy. This is the first single from a new cinematic album by Mars Smith which was written and filmed during a voyage to the Faroe Islands to explore the extraordinary natural beauty and folklore of the islands in the winter of 2023. The album will be released in instalments across 2024.
