The line is named after the black-headed gull (yurikamome in Japanese), a common denizen of Tokyo Bay and the official metropolitan bird. The Palette Town Giant Ferris Wheel (near Aomi Station), one of the symbols of Odaiba. The world’s largest Ferris wheel at the time, which opened with Palette Town in March 1993 (the London Eye was the world’s largest the following year), ceased operations in August 2022 and was demolished.
