The aria is from Georges Bizet’s opera Les pêcheurs de perles (The Pearl Fishers) with a libretto by Eugène Cormon and Michel Carré. It was premiered on 30 September 1863 at the Théâtre Lyrique in Paris.

I’ve tried to improve the audio quality as much as possible but, of course, the John McCormack and Enrico Caruso recordings are very old and were made by purely mechanical means (no microphones etc) and the Jussi Bjorling recording suffers from a metallic resonance which, I think, they were experimenting with at that time.
Just to give a “live“ effect with a little more presence, I have added applause.
Since uploading this video I’ve uploaded another Je crois entendre compilation with a further eleven recordings and, if you want to watch it the link is

I’ve also uploaded separately Richard Tucker’s 1947 recording of the aria and the link to that video is

A translation of the aria is as follows
I still believe I hear
hidden beneath the palm trees
her voice, tender and deep
like the song of a dove
oh enchanting night
divine rapture
delightful memory
mad intoxication, sweet dream.
In the clear starlight
I still believe I see her
half drawing her long veil
to the warm night breeze.
Oh enchanting night
divine rapture
delightful memory
mad intoxication, sweet dream.
Charming memory.
