Item title reads - The Grasmere sports. Mighty men of the fells compete in old English Sports - mist marred the glorious setting. Cumberland. M/S as men wrestle with each other in a field, C/U of two locked together, various shots as one throws another to the ground. M/S of him stood talking to a man smoking a cigar who is looking in a book. M/S as the man with the cigar stands holding one end of the finishing tape as it is stretched across the field. M/S of winning wrestler looking at the camera and smiling. Intertitle - ’the Derby of the Dales - 870 feet up to summit of Butter Crag and back - and the winner did it in 14 1/2 minutes.’ L/S from above of the race, M/S as the men climb over a stone wall and run through shrubs, various shots as they make their way along.
