Jackie is very familiar with this weather and has incubated in many snowstorms in the past. Bald Eagles have over 7000 feathers and ~105F core body temperature. Their contour and down feathers are zipped together creating an intricate overcoat which can trap pockets of warm air next to the body. Eagles can change how much air is trapped by rousing or re-arranging their feathers to create more or less air space. They also have a Crop, their “to go“ box that allows them to store up over 2 pounds of food. Eagles can easily go for days without eating, especially if they only sit on the nest without needing to expend more energy for flying and hunting.
