(Best seen in FULL Screen) A space rock with an estimated size of almost a kilometer has already been seen with small telescopes by amateur astronomers on recent nights and is set to safely pass by our planet on the night of Wednesday, February 15, 2023. The images on this video were obtained from Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico with a small 92mm telescope by Raymond Negron, of Sociedad de Astronomía del Caribe (SAC).
Asteroid 199145 (2005 YY128) was discovered on December 30, 2005 from the Kitt Peak Observatory at Tucson, Arizona.
With a diameter between 1903 ft (580 meters) to 4,265 ft (1.3 km), the space rock is classified as a Potentially Hazardous Asteroid. Its medium size makes it bright enough to be seen with an 8“ or larger telescope, while sky enthusiasts
with camera-equipped scopes have been able to capture the asteroid even in smaller telescopes.
This week, asteroid 2005 YY128 is having its closest approach to Earth in more than 400 years. However, its orbit is well know
