MAGFest 2020: Videofreak - Video Games and Video Art

Allen Riley is a video artist and the designer of Videofreak, a psychedelic shoot ‘em up that can be experienced in the MAGFest Indie Arcade. In this panel, Riley will demonstrate methods for synthesizing analog video art — abstract, flowing imagery created with electronic signals — using an assemblage of gaming consoles, video mixers, and CRT monitors. We will cover the basic techniques and historical context of video synthesis as an art form and explore what relevance this parallel history of interactivity has to gaming and game design.
