Amelita Galli-Curci - Rigoletto : Caro Nome (Verdi)
Galli-Curci’s second published recording of “Caro Nome“ from Verdi’s Rigoletto. This record replaced the version Galli-Curci made the previous November which opened with the “Gualtier Malde“ recitative; that record had an audible technical defect which led to this remake, recorded at Victor’s Camden New Jersey studios on February 2, 1917. Despite the omission of the recitative, Galli-Curci’s performance on this recording is superior to the earlier one and is indeed one of her very best. It has been hailed by some critics as one of the greatest recorded vocal performances of all time.
