Friends of the Brodsky Fund are still buzzing from our sublime evening of conversation and song with Boris Grebenshchikov.
Our host for the evening, Alexander Genis, later observed that it happened to fall on the thirtieth anniversary of Brodsky’s receiving the Nobel Prize—reminding us that Joseph shares with Boris not only a birthplace, but a melding of traditions and forms that thrills the ear and transcends national boundaries.
And while Bob Dylan shared the birthday with Joseph Brodsky, Boris Grebenshchikov, similarly to Dylan, occupies the space of an artist who blends the boundaries of poetry and songwriting.
We were so happy to have this opportunity to support not only the fellowships, but recording of Boris’s new album, from which we had a chance to hear some songs on Saturday.
