Hello, Friends!
“Atrocity“ was called “Leon’s Theme“ for a while by fans before the official soundtrack for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City came out. It’s the “Final Boss“ theme of the game.
The ultimate alternate-reality choice was presented to players just before this battle: to be loyal to Umbrella and kill Leon, or use Leon, Claire, and Sherry as a bargaining chip against Umbrella.
For those interested, I’ve got a bit of a personal story with this particular part...
Not many people liked this game. Many believed the gampelay to be bland and the player characters to be uninteresting. Maybe I have an overly creative mind, but I had a lot of fun with ORC--mostly because I felt connected with my teammates (My squad was Beltway, Bertha, Lupo, and Specter; and yes, I did play this game alone). When the time came to fight against them, well... this song really hit the emotional mark.
Bertha was probably my closest teammate. As the medic, she saved my life countless times. But I chose to save Leon, and she wanted to remain loyal to Umbrella. During the fight, I kicked her leg and held her at gunpoint, ready to pull the trigger and declare our alliance over. It was at this point that she said something along the lines of “We need them killed if we hope to get out of here!“ or something like that. At that instant, I realized I couldn’t kill her. Then Beltway, my player character, automatically whipped her in the face with the butt of his pistol Bertha fired at me. I ran away. And the music continued in the background.
All this when the game first released to terrible reviews. It’s my guilty pleasure in the RE series--just wish I had a chance to get that platinum trophy to prove it! xD
FUN FACT: I like the use the very last part of the song as a comedic and dramatic death theme in a lot of my videos. If you watch my content, you might recognize it!
Enjoy, and thanks for watching!
