Tomobiki-Cho a Urusei Yatsura tribute game - Video #3: School and schoolyard

This is the third video I made to show how my work is going on. I consider this kind of a tech demo that finally helps to get a sense of how the game it will look: all the footage has been recorded during gameplay.
It’s been very hard for me to achieve the result showed in this video, but at the same time it’s been very funny and satisfactory.
While I was developing the model of the school I spent a lot of time learning and mixing different optimization techniques to mantain a good frame rate.
To achieve this result I had to use occlusion culling, 3D model LODs and baked lightmaps: in this way the game runs smootly at 150 - 70 fps depending on the situation.
I also used a toon shader to get the “anime“ effect, realtime shadows computing and a good postprocessing layer to blend all shapes and colors to render the atmosphere I was longing for: not too anime and not too realistic.
I also completely changed Lum’s 3D model
