If you’re looking for one of the wildest custom Chevrolets on the market, we have your car. This incredible 1950 Chevrolet Deluxe is the end result of an extensive 10 year build that culminated in a Ridler Great 8 win. With over 25 other awards in its history, customs don’t get much nicer than this Chevy.
It’s easy to assume this is some sort of aftermarket body but underneath all those modifications is a genuine 1950 Chevrolet. The front has been extensively reworked and now features Mercedes headlights perched over a custom grille. The roof line was borrowed from a Dodge Neon before undergoing its own series of modifications. From door handles to trim, nearly everything removable has been shaved in favor of a clean modern look.
Two-tone paintwork features PPG Chianti Red and Lamborghini Orange. Dividing those colors in an impressive array of custom stripes including a simulated chrome strip expertly applied with an airbrush. As a PPG Dream Car award winner, there are no questions about the quality of this work. From every angle, this paintwork impresses.
Lift the highly modified Saturn hood and you’ll find a GM 502 cubic inch crate motor nestled in the bay. With over 500 horsepower off the shelf, the mill provides plenty of motivation for this coupe. A Comp roller cam, sheet metal intake and custom exhaust were added for some extra bite. The bay has been extensively smoothed and painted with a custom air intake topping off the setup.
Underneath the car, the smoothed and painted Art Morrison chassis houses a lengthy list of polished parts including a TH400 automatic transmission controlled by a Mooneyes Smart Shift digital interface. From there, power is sent to a polished Mark Williams custom rear end. Bumps are absorbed by a chrome tubular-arm independent front suspension with a polished four-bar setup keeping the back end planted. Rack and pinion steering and giant Baer brakes make driving this custom a pleasure. At the corners, one off Boyd Coddington three-spoke wheels match the cars attitude well.
Trigger the door poppers and a completely custom interior awaits. A set of bucket seats out of a Pontiac Fiero were acquired, rebuilt and wrapped in beige leather like all the soft parts inside. A flowing full length console divides the cabin down the center. Behind the leather-wrapped center panel, controls for the air conditioning system, air ride suspension, Mooneyes Smart Shift and the JVC stereo are hidden from plain sight. In front of the driver, a polished Flaming River steering column supports the custom Boyd Coddington steering wheel. Behind it, white-face Dolphin gauges keep tabs on the 502.
Included in the sale of the remarkable Chevy is a photo album documenting its transition from mild manner cruiser to Ridler Great 8 winner. There are also plenty of receipts and laminated copies of the cars numerous magazine features.
