The female Qawwali ensemble Ilahi sing Hazrat Amir Khusrau’s 13th century kalam Man Kunto Maula in praise of the King of Sufis, Hazrat Ali عَلِيّ ٱبْن أَبِي طَالِب “This new Qawwali group is an initiative by the Samā School of Music to support diversity and the female voice in a tradition typically carried by men. Within our music school there has been a growing enthusiasm from women to learn Qawwali, though I’m a Qawwali singer and harmonium player by profession, it’s been a great honour to teach and accompany on tabla these deeply inspired ladies over the past three months.
