Huge Solar Eruption Expected to Deliver ’Glancing Blow’ to Earth

A huge magnetic filament connected to sunspot AR3613 erupted today (02:05 UTC, ). Two subsequent CMEs were identified in SOHO/LASCO C2 imagery following the eruption. The first was signature to the SSE beginning ~17/03:12 UTC, and the second was a signature to the SW beginning ~17/03:36 UTC. Analysis and modeling of the event is ongoing. AR3613 is directly facing Earth, so an Earth-directed component is very likely. #solareruption #solarstorm #CME Thanks for watching!
