Juilliard Guitar Split Lesson Requirements

A big part of my practicing for the first half of 2021... In order to split lessons with a non-guitar teacher at Juilliard, jazz guitarists are required to pass a proficiency test. In this video, I perform most of what’s required on the test, although there is quite a bit more: more drop 2 cycles, drop 3 cycles, transcriptions of Eddie Lang, Freddie Green, gypsy jazz rhythm guitar, and banjo (Duke Ellington, King Oliver, Jerry Roll Morton). Also, a lot of sight reading. The Freddie Green transcriptions need to be performed using a faithful set-up; heavy bronze acoustic strings with high action. The tempos for all the scales, arpeggios and sequences are also specified in the requirements. Sorry about the string noise, I need to replace them. I don’t expect people to watch the whole video, it’s rather dull. Just wanted to document the work I put into it. It might be of interest to those wondering what is expected of jazz guitarists at a conservatory like Juilliard. 0:00 -
