Police said Lyoya, a 26-year-old Congolese refugee, was pulled over by the officer when his license plate did not match his car. The unnamed officer is on paid administrative leave, police said.
Meanwhile Grand Rapids residents, who had called for the video’s release in protests earlier this week, demonstrated downtown Wednesday evening, seeking police accountability for Lyoya’s death. They were expected to return Thursday night.
