When the opponent is in a defensive stance like in wrestling or bjj, it is difficult to footsweep them because their legs are so far away. I like this circle deashi because it creates the ideal opportunity. By circling and creating the trailing leg where the weight comes off the back leg, you can take your opponent right off their feet.
Note: Hand position is everything. As always. Good position first, then take the steps in order to launch your attacks. If this deashi fails, no big deal. Parlay it into your next attack. Low risk. Low commitment. This is the tinder of Judo attacks
