When it’s easier to avoid the truth or avoid a difficult conversation. Perhaps, protect a loved one? Or even protect our own reputation? However, there’s one consistency that we all know too well. “Little Lies always come back to bite us.“ Channeling from personal experience, I took an empathetic approach toward a topic that all of us have gone toe-to-toe without at one point or another. I got caught in a lie. Plain and simple. It was easier to avoid the truth at the moment because I knew it would paint me in a bad light. However, by doing this, I was far worse off in the long run when my impulsive “easy out” came back to haunt me. “Speaking truth is harder when we have to say the things that we don’t want to.“ It’s easy to lie. It can become a compulsive habit, even. When we know that the truth is going to result in turmoil, our instinct is to choose the path of least resistance. But is that the right thing to do? When it comes to the important conversations in life, honesty is our ally. Trust takes a lifetime of work but only mere seconds to destroy. We know what the right thing to do is. At times, we avoid it like the plague because it’s easy. Ultimately, in my story, I chose to come clean. It was fucking hard to do. It immensely saved a relationship that I value very much.
