’Song of the Far Homeland’ by Mikael Tariverdiev - Песня о далёкой Родине, Микаэл Таривердиев

A wonderfully atmospheric piece of melancholy, drama and mystery from that master of mood-making, Mikael Tariverdiev. Starting with a pensive solo on the Clarinet stop, the music builds up to Full Organ before finally subsiding into a deliciously menacing final chord. There’s a distinct James Bond vibe to this music - just like the 1973 Russian TV series “Seventeen Moments of Spring“ for which it was written. I’ve drawn on an arrangement by Maurizio Machella, adding a few touches which are intended to amplify the style of the original composer. Hopefully, in the words of the great Eric Morecambe, “You can’t see the join“ ... I’m really pleased with how the final section really takes off after 3:49, right up to the deliciously threatening final chord.
