Elle a abrité jusqu’à 3700 habitants. Avec l’apparition de produit de synthèse, elle fut abandonnée en 1960. Elle a été classée par l’UNESCO en 2005. Aujourd’hui ouverte aux touristes. Built in 1872, the ghost town of Humberstone/Santa Laura was created by the nitrate industry. This ancient city is the symbol of Chilean industry. It was home to up to 3700 inhabitants. With the appearance of synthetic products, it was abandoned in 1960.
