G7 expects economic ties with China; Beijing: ’unrealistic’ to decouple, ’not needed’ to de-risk

US official Saturday stated this year’s G7 summit will stress on “de-risking“ rather than “decoupling“ from China. Sullivan said the US expected economic engagement to continue with China, but was still working through the timing regarding planned phone calls, visits and meetings. US President Joe Biden and other G7 leaders have gathered in the Japanese city of Hiroshima for a three-day summit with its focus on relationship with Beijing and the urgency of ending Ukraine conflict.
