The Destructive Dermatologist: Albert Kligman’s Holmesburg Prison Experiments

In 1963, an inmate at the Holmesburg Prison in Philadelphia by the name of Al Zabala would hear of the studies being conducted by the University of Pennsylvania. These studies included a range of different tests such as powders, eye drops, face creams, deodorant, toothpaste and liquid diets. Later these tests would be known as the Holmesburg Prison experiments overseen by Albert Kligman.
