Behind these stonewalls and through the iron gates of this 2.6 acre property north of Toronto is a $9-million mansion used as a full-service, blackmarket, luxury casino, like something right out of a James Bond movie. York Regional Police raided this 53-room, 20,000 square foot mansion running an illegal full-service casino for wealthy gamblers in Markham, Canada. Guard dogs and armed security patrolled the grounds. Inside, underneath the cathedral ceilings, was a playground for the rich, primarily Chinese, gamblers. In the walkout basement was a casino with professional grade gaming tables, specializing in baccarat, mahjong and slot machines. Gaming was underway at the time of the raid and customers were forced to leave expensive drinks behind at tables with extremely high betting limits. The rooms of the main floor revealed VIP gaming tables, a full-service spa and a massive chef’s kitchen offering expensive, high-end dishes. The bar and wine cellar were impressive, to say the least. More than $1.5 million in top-shelf liquor and premium wine were onsite — more than 4,000 bottles. This raid took place on July 29, 2020, but was not publicly revealed until this week. About 30 people were arrested, including the 52-year-old alleged owner of the operation, his 48-year-old wife and their 25-year-old daughter.
