How to Read Academic Papers ONCE

Having spent 100s if not 1000 hours during my PhD re-reading papers to find important info, my top tip for any PhD student is to develop a digital system for your reading that puts those key details at your fingertips. This video gives you an intro to organising highlights from your papers for future you to quickly refind important info. The tool I use here, Protolyst, lifts text out of the page to give you better access to your important information such as highlights and annotations. The system lends itself very nicely to reading papers, but choose a tool and system that works best for you! Some terminology used: Atoms - the highlights and important info you want to save and access in future are saved as Atoms on Protolyst Tags - labels you can add to help organise and group your information and Atoms 00:50 Adding your Papers to Protolyst 01:10 Capturing Highlights as Atoms 02:14 Adding Tags to Organise your Atoms 03:02 Viewing Atoms in a Table
