We feel that the early reggae tunes of Brazil have been overlooked, so we went back in time and found some real gems! From the early 1980s, a wave of Brazilian-style reggae tunes was released in the North and Northeast of Brazil. Most of them are on independent or local record labels; these are mainly non-digitized vinyl albums and singles that we have collected over the last 3 years. Brazilian reggae music was first inspired by classic reggae albums. Then the visits by Bob Marley and Peter Tosh to Bahia and eventually it took on a more distinct Brazilian lyrical flavour and rhythmic expression. [ Batukizer is a Danish/Brazilian time-travelling DJ duo that aims to send you to a futuristic past with its collection of rare Brazilian musical treasures. All found on a journey of research that has lasted for many years and has continued to grow deeper and wider - both analog and digital. They have seriously pushed and spread the knowledge of Brazilian roots, regional and spiritual songs - powerful music - even if you don’t understand the lyrics. Their unique sounds touch people on festivals, worldwide dancefloors and across multiple platforms. Duality and originality is an essential parts of their work as Ras and Carla go to great lengths to present re-discovered tracks and musical connections.
