Rathbun’s Bloodfin Tetra/ Green Fire Tetra (Aphyocharax rathbuni) in the Planted Community Aquarium
This is the scene whenever the light just got turned on for the day, almost daily. They start their “dances“ when the aquarium is lit by the ambient light from the window, which is still pretty dim for the camera to take any image. They continue on with this Christmas-y red green and white for, at most, around thirty minutes before they return to the generally observed observed behavior of tetras.
These are Rathbun’s bloodfin tetras (Aphyocharax rathbuni), aka redflank tetra, green fire tetra, or red belly tetra. They’re a smaller but more colorful relative of the True Bloodfin tetras (Aphyocharax anisitsi).
