The Conjurer | Animated Short by David Badour

The Conjurer - An Animated Short by David Badour The Conjurer is a 2D animated short about an unexceptional individual. Beleaguered by everyday problems, our hero finds an unorthodox solution. Inspired by fictional characters such as Faust, Prospero, and Mickey Mouse (sorcerer’s apprentice), this short is a cautionary tale about neglecting what’s important and the dangers of taking shortcuts. Genre: Horror / Fantasy. David Badour is an illustrator, visual development artist and background department lead at Mercury Filmworks. “As a background artist and designer, my experience in animation was limited to web-based endeavors such as adver-games, apps, and similar small-scale projects using Adobe Flash. Mercury’s Shorts Program provided the perfect opportunity to expand that skill set while pursuing an original story. From a creative standpoint, the first round of Shorts was an inspiration! Seeing other artists come forward helped make the idea of creating and storytelling much more accessible. The initial plan was to ’keep it simple’ and stick with familiar territory. However, part of the motivation was to gain ’hands-on’ experience with Mercury’s animation pipeline and apply what was learned to ongoing projects. With that in mind, incorporating tools such as Storyboard Pro and Harmony became a key component of the process. The result was only possible through a sheer amount of ’naive resilience,’ the support and guidance of Heath Kenny & Mercury’s Shorts Program, and the help and mentorship of fellow shorts creator, Shane Plante.“ _______________________________________________________ Mercury Animated Shorts Mercury Shorts is a new endeavour by Mercury Filmworks, providing our artists with the opportunity to work closely with our development team to create their own animated short utilizing the support and development of our studio.
