GERVONTA DAVIS (USA) vs RICARDO NUNEZ (PANAMA) TKO FIGHT

Welcome guys thanks for joining me again in this update. I hope you’re all well. Ok guys, The fight between Gervonta Davis from the USA and Ricardo Nunez from Panama, took place on July 27, 2019, at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland. This was a fascinating bout as it marked Davis’s homecoming fight, and at the time he was defending his WBA Super World Super Featherweight title. Now as you can probably imagine, with the fight being scheduled in Davis’s hometown of Baltimore, there was an electrifying atmosphere with a highly supportive crowd for Davis. Now the first round was a battle of speed where Gervonta established himself as the one that could always get off first if he wanted to. This is always an aspect of fight that allows you to win rounds by points or establish combinations. Gervonta was able to do both but for the combinations he was limited to a slightly fragmented jab cross combination. In the second round, there was a moment in the early stage of that round and you could go back to the video timestamp it was at 5:24; after Davis sampled the power of Nunez I believe he instantly lost any respect he had for it and decided to walk him down. I’ll leave that timestamp in the description Now the climax of the fight was delivered when Davis unleashed a series of devastating punches, culminating in a powerful left hook that staggered Nunez. Davis followed up with a relentless assault that included another destructive left hook, prompting the referee to step in and stop the fight, thus awarding Davis a technical knockout victory. Ok guys, so you must already know by now that Davis will face off against Frank Martin at the end of this week, specifically June 15th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada to defend his WBA Super World Lightweight title. Now Gervonta is a tried and tested boxer. His last 10 opponents have a win to loss ratio of 256:12 and out of his last 5 opponents 4 of them were undefeated. He currently has a knockout ratio of 93.1% and he has been a champion at Super Featherweight, Lightweight and Super Lightweight. Now we have seen in a few of Martin’s fights where he has shown vulnerabilities to body shots; his fight with Jerry Perez and his most recent fight against Artem Harutyunyan. Davis also made a point of this in their press conference so it will be interesting to see if he tries to capitalise on this and also the manner in which he attempts this will be a spectacle to behold.
