The Biggest Celebration in Brunei: Hari Raya

Brunei’s massive palace is called Istana Nurul Iman and it’s over 2.1 million square feet. Located in the Bruneian capital city of Bandar Seri Begawan, it’s only open to the public for three days every year. This open house is to celebrate the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, with the celebration called Eid Mubarak. In Brunei, it’s known as Hari Raya Aidilfitri and, when we visited, it took place in early June. People wish each other Happy Raya or Selamat Hari Raya. A massive buffet lunch
