Stokowski in Hungary (1967) - Stravinsky & Beethoven
In early 1967, Leopold Stokowski made one of his regular guest-conducting visits outside the USA, this time visiting Romania and Hungary. Magyar Television filmed his visit to Budapest and from their documentary we see the 84-year-old Maestro rehearsing and conducting parts of Stravinsky’s “Petrushka“ Suite and Beethoven’s 7th Symphony with the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra.
Unfortunately, in the rehearsal excerpts, and despite the presence of a microphone, we don’t hear Stokowski’s voice. Evidently s
