Liberia - Factional Fighting Continues

(20 May 1996) T/I: 10:19:01 New factional fighting broke out in Monrovia on Saturday (18/5), with Krahn factions loyal to Roosevelt Johnson advancing into territory previously held by rival militiamen. The fighting is pitting the Krahns against forces loyal to faction leaders and council of state members Charles Taylor and After these so-called government forces baited their foes, the Krahns advanced, easily pushing into the diplomatic enclave of Mamba Point, held by Taylor’s National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL) and members of the Alhaji Kromah led United Liberation Movement (ULIMO-K).
