Blondie ~ Rapture 1981 Super Extended Purrfection Version

Discover the meaning of Rapture I got to doodlin’ around with another Blondie song and I kinda pushed it as far as I could without making it boring. What amazes me most about Blondie’s “Rapture“ is the super original funky hip hop track they recorded for it. They did not sample other groups funk, but they sure figured out how to get the flavor and make it their own. The rapped lyrics telling the story of an absurd UFO encounter on Earth were written by Debbie Harry and Chris Stein. Debbie mentions that she still has the original papers and you can easily see who wrote which parts by the handwriting. As for the music track, there’s a horn part that makes me think of “Which Way Is Up“ by Stargard, there is a Chic-like guitar riff and then I realized that the bass line is evocative of Donna Summer’s “Love To Love You Baby“.
