4K Launch Replay: SpaceX Falcon Heavy launches NOAA’s GOES-U satellite
The first of two planned SpaceX Falcon Heavy launches in 2024 lifted off on June 25 at 5:16 p.m. EDT (2116 UTC) from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center (KSC). NASA awarded SpaceX a $152.5 million contract to launch the satellite through its Launch Services Program (LSP), which is based at KSC.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) satellites is the fourth and final of the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites - R (GOES-R) series. The GOES-U satellite reached geostationary orbit on July 7 and was officially renamed “GOES-19.“ It will deploy its megnetometer boom once it reaches the 89.5 degrees west longitude initial checkout position, which is situated between the operational GOES-West and GOES-East. Its operational position will be located at 75.2 degrees West.
