I decided to shoot today’s video based on your comments in which you write to me that you would like to see a collection of my old irons.
A few years ago I got my first iron for my birthday from my wife.
For some time she lay alone on the shelf, but it didn’t take long and more pieces began to add to her :)
In my collection there are both irons from my country (Czech), but also irons from Russia, Hungary, Poland, Austria ...
Dressmakers, military irons, gas irons, charcoal irons, hot irons.
The heaviest iron is a tailor and weighs 7.5 kg.
In my collection I have irons mostly in their original state.
Something from history :
Iron is a device used for ironing, or smoothing fabric using high temperature and pressure. Ironing works by releasing the bonds in the polymer molecules forming the fibers of the fabric due to temperature. When the fibers are hot, they straighten under pressure and maintain their shape when cooled. Some fabrics such as cotton also need water.
Initially the linen was pressed or rolled, in the 15th century a hot iron appeared. In the past, the iron looked like a glazed metal block with a handle. After being heated, for example, on a cooktop, the thermal inertia of the metal block made it possible to maintain a sufficient temperature for several minutes to be ironed. After cooling, the iron had to be placed on the hob and allowed to warm up again. The shape of the iron resembles a foot with a triangular tip end on one side and a flat edge on the heel side. Due to comfortable ironing, this shape is also used in other, more modern constructions.
The iron was improved by designing a small charcoal fireplace on the foot, where several hot coals could be placed to maintain the iron’s high temperature without having to put it on a hot plate at any moment. Another alternative was irons, which were heated with alcohol.
In the 20th century, the irons expanded, with an internally heated spiral of several hundred watts and powered from the mains. The first electric irons were discovered in the 1890s. Later, a thermoregulator was added to the iron to maintain the desired temperature to a few degrees Celsius, and in addition, a humidifier (steam iron) appeared in the iron (source Wikipedia)
Are you also collectors of irons?
If you have any photos then you can share them with others on my Facebook page:
