Parry with the flat or the edge of the sword? - Let’s ask the pros!

This is one of the questions I asked Richard Marsden and Lee Smith at the end of a historical martial arts seminar. The question of whether parrying an opponent’s sword with the edge or the flat of the blade is preferable was often debated, although from what I’ve seen it doesn’t seem to be much of a topic anymore lately. Regardless of my personal opinion (see earlier videos) I wanted to let you hear two very skilled and knowledgeable instructors express their views on the matter, Richard Marsden (Phoenix Society of Historical Swordsmanship) and Lee Smith (Blood & Iron). ******************************************************************************** My favorite online store for buying swords (worldwide shipping): Some recommended knife makers on Amazon: Knives|Columbia River Knife & Tool|Buck Knives|Benchmade|Fallkniven|Spyderco|SOG Specialty Knives&rnid=2528832011&tag=skallagrim-20 Want to help fund future videos?
