What does it mean to work in a series?

I get a lot of questions about what it means to work in a series, so I thought I’d share my thoughts. For me, a series is a set of related paintings that are linked somehow - that link could be an idea, a technique or a color palette. Each painting is related but something different stars in each one. This creates a cohesive body of work where each painting has its own unique voice.
