Israeli soldiers raise their flag on a southern Lebanon town

Footage published on social media and verified by AFP on October 8 shows Israeli soldiers planting an Israeli flag on a hilltop outpost in Maroun al-Ras, in the south of Lebanon. The flag was raised in the ruin of the “Iran Garden“ park in the suburbs of the village, according to Al Jazeera, It was not clear whether the soldiers have since left the area or not. Two days ago, the United Nations peacekeepers in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said it was “deeply concerned“ by the arrival of Israeli soldiers in the “southeast of Maroun al-Ras“ who set up a military camp in front of a UN-led Irish contingent. As strikes continue on Beirut, the Israeli army has announced the deployment of a fourth division for its ongoing ground invasion of southern Lebanon.
