How an author’s pettiness destroyed her career: review bombing, Reylos, and 30+ pages of receipts

Cait Corrain, a promising debut author for the anticipated fantasy book Crown of Starlight, was exposed for creating multiple burner accounts on Goodreads, where she rated 1 star and wrote negative reviews for other debut novels by authors of color - all while rating her own book 5 stars and upvoting it. When interrogated by other authors, she attempted to cover her tracks by creating fake conversations between herself and the “culprit“, reigning in the skepticism of Reylos. This culminated into the release of a 30 page Google doc with screenshots of her Goodreads activity over the past year. Afterward, her agent, publishing house, and promotional partners dropped Cait, pushing her to post an apology.
